IPL 2022: A List Of All Bidders And Their Amounts For The 2 New IPL Teams
The 2022 season of the Indian Premier League will see two new franchises and now we even know which are the cities that will have a team to cheer for. The cities of Ahmedabad and Lucknow were finalized after an intense bidding process that took place in Dubai on October 25, 2021.
RPSG Group, who previously had a team in the league is now back. In the 2016 and 2017 editions, the group had bought Pune city’s franchise which had been made to fill in the spaces which were left behind because of the ban which Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals had faced. As a matter of fact, Rising Pune Supergiant as it was known then, even qualified for the final in 2017, only to lose marginally against Mumbai Indians.
Now, the group will have access to the franchise based out of the city of Lucknow. On the other hand, CVC Capitals bought the stakes in the franchise based out of the city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. The city is home to the largest cricket stadium in the world, the Narendra Modi stadium, which can hold up to 1,32,000 people.
RPSG Group bid the highest amount of all the bidders
After the bidding process ended, Harsh Goenka, who is the chairman of the RPG Enterprises revealed the bids which were made by all the business groups who showed interest in buying the two new teams. He uploaded a picture of the final bids displayed on the screen, which gave an idea of what amounts all the businesses went ahead bid for.
The RPSG ventures ltd. were the highest bidders in fact as they put forward an amount of INR 7090 crores for both Ahmedabad and Lucknow. They also bid for Indore with an amount of INR 4790 crores. Irelia Company Pte Ltd, who bid under CVC Capital put forward an amount of INR 5625 crores for Ahmedabad while also bidding INR 5166 for Lucknow. They eventually got the Ahmedabad team.
The Adani group who were the frontrunners put forward INR 5,1000 crores for both the cities but fell short. The Glazers, who were also one of the more popular bidders, ended up falling short as well with their bids of slightly more than INR 4,000 crore.
