IPL 2022: 5 players who could have been picked by new teams
The two new IPL franchises, Ahmedabad and Lucknow announced the three players that they have picked ahead of the 2022 IPL mega auctions. While Ahmedabad picked Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, and Shubman Gill, the Lucknow outfit opted for KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi. However, there were some marquee players that the two teams did not pick. In this article, let us take a look at those players.
5. David Warner
David Warner is a legend of IPL cricket. Warner is the 5th highest run-scorer in the tournament and has blasted 5449 runs at an average of 41.59. He has also scored four hundreds and 50 fifties. Warner was not retained by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side and it was expected that either Ahmedabad or Lucknow might show interest in him. But, neither did.
4. Shreyas Iyer
There were reports that the Ahmedabad franchise might pouch Shreyas Iyer and even make him the skipper of their side. However, that was not the case, as the right-hander was not picked by either Ahmedabad or Lucknow. Iyer has scored over 2000 runs in the IPL and averages over 30. He also led the Delhi Capitals (DC) side to the summit clash of the 2020 edition of the IPL.
3. Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan was in scintillating form in IPL 2021 and aggregated 587 runs at an average of close to 40. Dhawan brings with him an experience of 192 IPL matches, and he has also amassed 5784 runs in the IPL. Dhawan will surely be a ‘hot pick’ in the upcoming IPL auctions.
2. Faf du Plessis
Faf du Plessis played a major role in helping the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side lift the 2021 IPL title. The right-hander scored a staggering 633 runs in the competition and scored them at an average of 45.21. He is also a superb fielder and an asset for any side in the shorter versions of the game. It was expected that either Ahmedabad or Lucknow might pick him ahead of the mega auctions, but that was not the case.
1. Yuzvendra Chahal
Yuzvendra Chahal has scalped 139 wickets in his IPL career and brings with him an experience of 114 matches. He can control the run flow in the middle overs, and can also break flourishing partnerships with his guile. Chahal would have been a handy pick, but neither Ahmedabad nor Lucknow chose to pick him.
