Chahal has been in talks recently after the national selection committee led by Chetan Sharma made the announcement of India’s squad for the T20 World Cup on Wednesday, September 9. The spinner has not been included in the Indian side for the mega event and his omission fueled many debates around the cricketing world.
Yuzvendra Chahal misses out from the T20 World Cup squad
He has been the spearhead of India’s spin attack in white-ball cricket. However, in recent times, Chahal has struggled a tad bit with his form. Despite it, it was expected that he would make it to the T20 World Cup squad. But the selection committee went with Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel. Rahul Chahar, who exuded his flair in the recent past, also made it to the team alongside mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy. Owing to his all-rounder skills Ravindra Jadeja also made a return to the setup.
The chief selector of the team India, Chetan Sharma, recently stated the reason why Chahal wasn’t picked for the tournament. “We had a discussion over Yuzvendera Chahal and the selectors thought was we need a bowler, who can bowl fast, and as we have recently seen Rahul Chahar bowling, the speed that he bowls with, the selectors thought that we need such a player, who can on those wickets, can hold and more speed, and so, there was a lot of discussion about Chahal, but we zeroed on Rahul Chahar,” he said.
