IPL 2021: Yuvraj Singh ‘very happy’ for Harpreet Brar after latter’s all-round show

Brar

Punjab Kings player Harpreet Brar made an impact in the very first game he played for in the 2021 edition of the IPL. On Friday, against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Brar was picked as an all-rounder, replacing Moises Henriques. The 25-year-old didn’t disappoint and ended up as the player of the match.

To start with, he played a 17-ball 25 cameo with one four and two sixes. In fact, he finished off Punjab’s innings with a six off Harshal Patel, taking his team to 179 in 20 overs. With the ball, he gave away 19 runs at an economy rate of 4.75 with a double wicket-maiden. The left-arm spinner dismissed RCB’s cream layer of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell in quick succession.

On the back of his all-round show, PBKS won by 34 runs. Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh lauded Brar for his performance. He also praised the Punjab Cricket Association and veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh for supporting match-winners.

Grateful after dismissing Virat Kohli

After making his IPL debut in 2019, Brar has played four games. But it was only in his fourth match that he picked up his maiden wicket in the league and it turned out to be that of Kohli.

“I am sure the people back home would be proud and happy. I wasn’t overwhelmed when Kohli hit me because a bowler always gets a second chance to come back. My first IPL wicket was Kohli Paaji’s wicket and that was very special,” Brar said.

“It came out in a flow after that, your body opens up, you get confident and things fall in place. When I came out to bat, I had the time to wait for a couple of overs. Rahul bhai was also talking to me about the conditions and about the shots I could play,” he added.
