It wasn’t a good day at the office for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Sunday (April 25) in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). They lost their first game of the season against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by a huge margin of 69 runs. The day ended with another bad news for the Men in Red as their skipper Virat Kohli was fined for the team’s slow over-rate during the match.

The BCCI has directed all the teams to finish their 20 overs within 90 minutes this season including the five-minute strategic time-out break. But RCB didn’t complete their overs in time and hence, the skipper has been fined.

Also, this being the first offence of the team, Virat Kohli has been fined Rs 12 lakh. Three offences related to slow over-rate will result in a one-match ban this season.

“Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 25.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over-rate offences, Mr Kohli was fined Rs 12 lakh,” the press release from the BCCI stated.

RCB suffer their first loss of the season

As far as the match is concerned, it wasn’t a good day for Virat Kohli himself. He got out early in the pursuit of the 192-run chase. RCB batting, on the day, collapsed as a whole as Ravindra Jadeja wreaked havoc with the ball picking three wickets while conceding just 13 runs in his four overs. Halfway into their chase, the result of the game was a foregone conclusion.

Earlier, it was Ravindra Jadeja again with the bat. He slammed 37 runs off Harshal Patel’s single over, which was also the 20th of the innings, as CSK posted a huge total of 191 runs on the board in their 20 overs. His unbeaten knock of 62 runs from 28 deliveries proved match-winning in the end.
