IPL 2021: Three players CSK might release ahead of the auction
Chennai Super Kings had a woeful run in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League, where they failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Super Kings, prior to that, never had a season in their 10-year history of the game where they failed to book a playoffs berth. Players like Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh pulled out of the tournament, and the team’s middle-order woes never seemed to settle.
All the eyes were on legendary skipper MS Dhoni, who was set to walk the field of competitive cricket after 14 long months. His presence was also much awaited as he had stepped down from the international format of the game back then but even he failed to bring his usual best to the table. It is assumed that CSK will walk up the IPL arena with many significant changes in their lot in IPL 2021. In the same light, let’s take a look at three players CSK might release ahead of the IPL 2021 auction.
3. Kedar Jadhav
If there was one batsman who received all the backlash for his dismal form in the matches he played, it was Kedar Jadhav. MS Dhoni gave him chances ahead of youngsters on more than one occasion, and he failed to perform every single time. In eight matches he played in IPL 2020, he scored 62 runs at an average of 20.66, maintaining a dismal strike rate of 2021. He even failed to rotate strike on various occasions when the batter in front was going in full rhythm. He is most likely to be released by CSK before IPL 2021.
2. Murali Vijay
Murali Vijay didn’t get his fair chance with the yellow team this time, but he couldn’t rise to the occasion wherein he walked the field with willow. A lot was expected from him in the opening slot as CSK rarely got off to a great start in IPL 2020, but he failed to deliver. Once a great asset for CSK in IPL, Vijay scored just 32 runs in three matches at an average of 10.66. His below-average strike rate of 74.41 couldn’t do anything good for CSK, and the team kept struggling all the while. He is another contender the team might look to release ahead of the IPL 2021 auction.
1. Karn Sharma
Moving to the bowling section of CSK, the team kept trying many combinations to bring their best to the table. Spinner Karn Sharma got to play five matches in the yellow outfit where he picked just five wickets at an economy of 8.68. He didn’t turn out to be too successful for the team on any of the occasions, and the fact that CSK might go for some major changes in its lot ahead of IPL 2021, Karn Sharma might lose his spot.
