IPL 2021: Three bowlers who can replace Jofra Archer in the upcoming season
Being one of the top bowlers in the world, Jofra Archer is a key member of the Rajasthan Royals set-up. Having won the award for the most valuable player in IPL 2020, Archer was expected to be an important match-winner for the Royals. However, his recent injuries have ruled him out of the first half of the upcoming season. Here are 3 players who can replace Jofra Archer in IPL 2021:
3. Billy Stanlake
There are a lot of things to like about Billy Stanlake. He is tall, he has pace and he can swing the ball as well. With his height, he is able to generate an awkward bounce from a surface. He has played 19 T20Is for Australia as well. He had also impressed the IPL fans when he had turned up for Sunrisers Hyderabad in a total of six games in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. His record in T20s makes him a really good contender to take the place of Archer in the upcoming season of the IPL. He has 81 wickets in his 76 T20 games at a strike rate of 19.8.
2. Oshane Thomas
Oshane Thomas is probably one of the fastest bowlers West Indies have produced in recent times. He has a raw pace that can rattle any batsman. His ability to create bounce from even a dead surface makes a good pick for Indian conditions. The right-arm quick had previously featured for the Royals team, which makes him someone who is familiar with the set-up. In Archer’s absence, Thomas could be the right pick for the franchise as he can operate at every stage of the match and take wickets at regular intervals. Thomas has picked up 56 wickets from 42 matches in T20 cricket.
1. Jason Behrendroff
The left-arm quick from Australia is someone who has a knack for picking up wickets. He can swing the ball early on and his left-arm angle creates problems for many batsmen. He is also tall which allows him to extract some extra bounce from the pitch. He recently had turned up for Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League where he picked up 16 wickets. He has experience of playing in the IPL as well, having featured for Mumbai Indians in the 2019 season. Given a chance, Behrendroff’s inclusion in the Royals’ set-up could allow them to have a terrific new-ball pacer at the top.
