IPL 2021: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli set the mood for the season opener

IPL

2021 will get off to a blockbuster start as two of the game’s biggest stars – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli – will be up against each other. The fourteenth edition of the tournament will get underway on April 9 in Chennai with the mouthwatering clash between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The RCB-MI fixture has been one of the most exciting clashes in the IPL so far. They hardly fail to entertain the fans when they take on each other. Talking about the head-to-head rivalry, MI have a clear upper hand. Both the teams have played 29 games against each other so far and MI have won 19 while RCB have won 10.

RCB will be looking to improve their record this year as they look to win their first-ever IPL trophy. MI, on the other hand, will be eyeing history as they can become the first-ever team to win the IPL thrice in a row.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma tweet ahead of IPL opener

A couple of days ahead of locking horns on the field, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma posted interesting tweets on their respective Twitter handles. Kohli was the first to tweet. He started by telling the fans that RCB are back before talking about the tournament-opener against Mumbai. Kohli interestingly asked the fans to tell him his mantra of playing bold.

“Hey RCB fans! We are back, proudly representing the red & gold brigade. A cracking contest awaits us as we face MI in our opening clash of #VIVOIPL. Tell me your mantra to #PlayBold using #KohliMantra. Mark your calendars – April 9, 7:30 PM. The heat is on!,” wrote Kohli.

Just a couple of minutes later, Rohit came up with a similar sort of tweet. He called RCB one of the best teams before he too asked the fans the mantra to win the game, tweeting, “Hello Paltan! We’re getting closer to the opening match of #VIVOIPL, where we will face one of the best teams in RCB. Jeet ke liye kaun sa mantra try karoon? Share your thoughts using #RohitMantra. Mark your calendars – April 9, 7:30 PM ko”
