IPL 2021: PBKS vs DC, Stats Review – Mayank’s 99, Dhawan’s streak and more stats
Few hours before the match started, there was sad news that Punjab Kings captain, the wicketkeeper, and their leading batsman KL Rahul was diagnosed with appendicitis and was ruled out of this match. In his absence, the debutant captain Mayank Agarwal scored a fighting knock of 99* without much support from the other end, just like how Rahul used to do in many matches for the team. Despite Mayank Agarwal who batted till the end having a decent strike rate, the lack of support at the other end meant that Punjab could muster just 166 runs.
Just like Mayank Agarwal, Shikhar Dhawan also carried his team till the end but he rather found much support from the other end. The support from batsmen at the other end was crucial for Dhawan’s success in the recent years of IPL, which he didn’t have during his days at SRH. Shaw, Smith, Pant, and Hetmyer all played useful roles to carry Dhawan and team to a comfortable victory with more than two overs left. This places Delhi Capitals on the top of the points table, as they continue to dominate the group stage just like last year.
Here’s a look at the stats produced during the PBKS-DC IPL encounter
161 – Runs scored by Shikhar Dhawan against Punjab Kings in this season, with scores of 92 and 69*. This is now the most runs by a player against Punjab Kings in an IPL season, surpassing 159 runs by Manish Pandey in 2014.
46 – This is the 46th fifty-plus knock for Dhawan in IPL, surpassing Virat Kohli’s 45 to take the second spot in most fifty-plus scores in the league.
4 – Delhi Capitals have now won 4 out of their last 5 matches against Punjab Kings in IPL.
99 – Runs scored by Mayank Agarwal today, which is the second-highest score on a player’s captaincy debut. Sanju Samson’s 119 earlier in this season is the only score higher than Mayank on IPL captaincy debut.
8 – This is the eighth fifty-plus score for Shikhar Dhawan against Punjab Kings in IPL, which is now the joint second highest along with Chris Gayle. Only David Warner has most fifty-plus scores for them (11).
