IPL 2021: KKR cricketers Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier return home

Varun Chakravarthy

Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) cricketers, Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier, who tested positive for Covid-19 have now returned home after completing their period of isolation. A number of cricketers who participated in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) tested positive for Covid-19, and as a result, the IPL had to be suspended midway.

And now, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official has confirmed that both the KKR cricketers have gone home. The official also stated that both the players have completed their isolation period and the KKR franchise will continue to monitor their health.

The official also added that Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier will undergo RT-PCR tests once they go home. He further revealed that Sandeep Warrier is fine and he is not having any symptoms. The official concluded by stating that both the cricketers are in good spirits as well.

“Yes, Chakravarthy and Sandeep have gone home. They have completed 10 days of mandatory isolation. However, KKR as a franchise will keep monitoring their health. They will undergo RT-PCR tests in Chennai and Kerala respectively,” the official revealed.

Sandeep, in particular, is doing fine. No temperature, no other symptoms, and he is feeling good. Varun is still a little under the weather, but better than yesterday and both of them are in good spirits,” said a BCCI official as quoted by The Hindustan Times.

Only 29 matches were completed in IPL 2021

The BCCI could complete only 29 out of the 60 scheduled matches in the 2021 edition of the IPL. The T20 league has been suspended, and the BCCI has stated that one possible window where the remainder of the IPL can be conducted is during the month of September this year.

At the time of the suspension of the 2021 edition of the IPL, the Delhi Capitals (DC) are occupying the top place in the points table, and have won 6 out of the 8 matches that they have played in the tournament. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side, on the other hand, is placed at the last place in the points table, having lost 6 out of the 7 matches that they have played in the tournament.
