IPL 2021: KKR captain Eoin Morgan gives an update on his injury
Ahead of the highly-anticipated 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were dealt with a massive blow as their skipper and ace batsman Eoin Morgan succumbed to an injury while fielding in the first ODI of the three-match series against India at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
After splitting the webbing between his thumb and index finger, Morgan had to get the stitches and was thus forced to sit out in the next two ODIs against India. There are speculations that Eoin might have to sit out in the first few games of IPL 2021 due to his hand injury. However, in a virtual press conference on Wednesday, the skipper confirmed that he is progressing well and feels a lot better than he did a week ago.
“I feel a lot better than I did probably a week ago. The plan moving forward is to remove the stitches tomorrow. Then progress my batting in the coming days and over the week, and then fielding at the back end of that. Given the time frame that I have available to me, it is looking very good,” said Morgan.
Morgan backs his spin department to come good
There is very little doubt that on paper, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders have one of the best spin bowling line-ups including the likes of Varun Chakravarthy, Harbhajan Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Sunil Narine, and Shakib Al Hasan.
Speaking about the spin attack, the KKR skipper Eoin Morgan reckoned that the addition of Harbhajan is a great boost for the side. The Knight Riders are scheduled to play three league games at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai and it is a well-known fact that the pitch at the venue assists the spinners to a large extent.
“I think adding Harbhajan to our squad has strengthened us in a really good way. If you look at our spin department as a whole, on paper it is one of the best in the tournament…You look at the options we have and the conditions we might play in, particularly in Chennai, which notoriously can turn and raise the eyebrows of our spinners. Which is hard to do! It is an area that, if we play well in the tournament, I think our spinners would have bowled well and contributed in that regard,” Morgan stated in a virtual press conference on Wednesday.
