IPL 2021: Five players for whom this IPL might turn out to be their last
So, the biggest cricketing festival is upon us. In less than a week, the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will commence, and the best cricketers in the world will be seen in action. And, the 2021 edition of the IPL might see some players playing the tournament for the final time. In this article, let us take a look at 5 cricketers for whom the 2021 edition of the IPL might be their last.
5. Kedar Jadhav
One man who was under the spotlight for his abysmal performance in the 2020 edition of the IPL was Kedar Jadhav. Turning out for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Jadhav could score only 62 runs in 5 innings and averaged just 20.67 in the 13th IPL edition. And, the CSK side promptly released him after his poor performance. But then, Jadhav was pouched by the Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH) side for his base price of INR 2 Crore. If Jadhav does not perform well in the 2021 edition of the IPL, he might never get another chance to wear an IPL jersey again.
4. Daniel Christian
Another cricketer for whom the 2021 edition of the IPL might prove to be his last is Daniel Christian. Christian was bought for a sum of INR 4.8 Crores by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise. Christian will turn 38 next month, and if he does not set the stage alight in the IPL this year, then we might never see him in the IPL again.
3. Harbhajan Singh
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought Harbhajan Singh for his base price of INR 2 Crores. Harbhajan is over 40 years old, and this might be the last IPL season for the off-spin legend. ‘Bhajji’ is a veteran in IPL cricket and has picked up 150 wickets in his IPL career. Even though he has played in the IPL since the inaugural edition in 2008, it looks as if 2021 might be the last time we get to see the Turbanator in the IPL.
2. Imran Tahir
Imran Tahir is yet another spinner who might not feature in the IPL after this year. Tahir has played 58 IPL matches and has scalped 80 wickets in the league. Even in the 2020 edition of the IPL that was held in the UAE, Tahir could play just 3 matches for the Chennai Super Kings. The South African is already 42 years old, and it is highly unlikely that he will carry on after the 2021 IPL season.
1. Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Two words that MS Dhoni uttered last year went viral on social media. When asked if the 2020 edition of the IPL might be his last, Dhoni replied “Definitely Not”. However, the 2021 edition might well prove to be the swansong for the CSK legend. Dhoni is a colossus in IPL cricket, and has scored 4632 runs in his IPL career at an excellent average of 40.99. He has also led the CSK side to 3 IPL titles.
