IPL 2021: Five major T20 records which could have been created
The 14th season of the Indian Premier League was postponed recently after multiple cases of COVID 19 were reported in different teams. The first 29 matches of this season were held successfully while the clouds still remain over the remaining 31 games. With the suspension of IPL midway, there were many big T20 records that could not be achieved. We will be listing out 5 such records in this article which will be broken at some later stage in the year.
5.Virat Kohli’s 10,000 runs in T20 cricket
Virat Kohli has scored 9929 runs in 296 innings in T20 cricket so far. He is only 71 runs away from completing 10000 runs in T20 cricket, and become the first Indian player to achieve the milestone. He will also become the second fastest to achieve the milestone after Chris Gayle (285 innings).
4.Rohit Sharma’s 400 sixes
Indian opener Rohit Sharma has accumulated 9315 T20 runs in 337 innings till now. He has smashed 397 sixes in his career and is only 3 maximums away from becoming the first Indian to reach the landmark of 400 sixes.
3. Sunil Narine’s 400 wickets
In his T20 career so far, Sunil Narine has picked up 393 wickets in 350 games. He is only 7 wickets away from completing 400 wickets in the shortest format, and become the first spinner to achieve the feat. He will also become the second bowler after Dwayne Bravo (518) to complete 400 T20 wickets.
2. MS Dhoni’s 300 matches as captain
MS Dhoni has so far played 291 T20 matches as captain. Since CSK were doing well in the tournament, it was very much possible that they would have finished in the top 2. In that case, Dhoni would have become the first player to complete 300 T20 matches as captain.
1. Virat Kohli’s 200th match
Virat Kohli has played 199 matches for RCB in IPL. He missed out on being the first player to feature in 200 T20 matches for the same team in a particular T20 league.
