IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer lands in UAE to begin preparations
The UAE leg of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is just a month away and all eight teams would be raring to shine in the Arab nation. Delhi Capitals will indeed be a team to beat in the competition as they were on a roll in the initial half of the season. In fact, at the time of season suspension, the Delhi-based side was leading the team standings with six wins in eight games.
While DC would be confident ahead of the UAE leg, Shreyas Iyer’s return would have boosted their morale even further. For the unversed, Iyer, DC’s regular skipper, didn’t feature in the initial half of the season due to a shoulder injury. However, the star batter has regained fitness and he’ll subsequently participate in the remaining season.
Iyer has even reached UAE with his teammates to commence preparations for the gala tournament. On Saturday (August 14), the 26-year-old took to his Instagram story and updated fans about his arrival in the UAE by sharing a short clip. He showcased the beautiful view from his hotel room in the video. The clip went viral in no time as fans were ecstatic seeing the young batter gearing up to make a comeback over the 22 yards.
Shreyas Iyer missed the initial half of IPL 2021
For the unversed, Iyer had injured his shoulder during the ODI series against England in March this year. With the wound being serious, he got ruled out of the now-postponed IPL 2021. Young wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was asked to lead DC in his absence and the southpaw did a fine job.
Besides with impressive in front and behind the stumps, Pant took some brilliant off-field decisions as well. As a result, DC, who finished as runners-up last season, were on a roll this year. Notably, DC possessed arguably the most daunting batting line-up this year with the likes of Rishabh Pant, Marcus Stoinis, Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan in the ranks.
With Shreyas Iyer also coming in the mix now, DC’s line-up will become even more lethal. However, it would be interesting to see whether Iyer will back as captain or Pant will continue in the leadership role.
