IPL 2021: DC vs MI – Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma fined for slow over rate
Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has been fined INR 12 lakh for his team’s slow over-rate against Delhi Capitals in Chennai on Tuesday. MI’s five-match winning streak against DC in the IPL came to an end after Rohit’s men lost by six wickets in the encounter.
As far as Rohit is concerned, he went off the field midway during DC’s innings after he sustained a slight niggle. It was Kieron Pollard who took charge of captaincy thereafter, marshalling his troops.
What’s the fine for slow over-rates?
Since it was Sharma’s first offence as the captain, he copped a fine of INR 12 lakhs. In case of a second offence, the skipper is fined 24 lakhs, even as every other member of the playing eleven is fined INR six lakhs or 25 per cent of match fees, whichever is lesser. If the captain commits a third offence, he has to pay a fee of INR 30 lakhs and serve a one-match ban.
In the third scenario, the players in the eleven are docked 50 per cent of match fees or INR 12 lakhs, whichever is lesser. For further offences, the punishments of the third scenario apply.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Quinton de Kock notched 44 runs along with 20s from Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Jayant Yadav. Following MI’s loss, Rohit rued the batters missing out on converting their starts. He also iterated the importance of playing smart cricket in order to make a turnaround.
“After the start, we got we should have batted better in the middle overs. It is happening time and again. We aren’t able to capitalise on our starts and we need to understand as a batting unit. But you have to give credit to the Delhi bowlers, they kept it tight and kept taking wickets,” Rohit said after the match
“We knew dew would come in but we have seen that it’s not all that difficult to grip the ball in the last few games. Dew isn’t the factor, we need to play smart cricket to win games which we didn’t do today,” he added.
