IPL 2021: DC vs KKR, Stats Review – Russell’s T20 record, Shaw’s fifty and more stats

Two doubleheaders and two 7-wicket win in comfortable chases, as is being the theme of most of the recent IPL matches. Earlier former Delhi Capitals player Quinton de Kock scored a fifty and now the current Delhi Capitals player Prithvi Shaw scored an extremely brisk fifty to seal the respective chases in IPL 2021. In what was rather a smooth run for the Delhi Capitals, they had heartbreak in their previous match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, losing by just one run. But this time Delhi ensured they had no problem of any kind at any stage of the chase.

Amit Mishra was set to become the first to play 100 IPL matches for Delhi Capitals, but a shoulder injury led to Lalit Yadav replacing him. However, the off-spinner Lalit dismissed both Sunil Narine and Eoin Morgan within three balls, which proved to be the turning point of the match. Lalit finished with figures of 2/13, the best in the match. After the two wickets in quick succession, Andre Russell could consolidate and take Kolkata Knight Riders to 154.

Delhi Capitals went so easy in the chase as if they were chasing 55. After Dhawan-Shaw recorded their second-century partnership this season, Pat Cummins took three wickets in quick succession, but that was too late as Delhi Capitals cruised to win by 7 wickets, which is the common margin of all the last three matches.

Here’s a look at the stats from the DC-KKR IPL encounter.

132 – The stand between Shaw and Dhawan today, which is the fifth-highest opening stand for Delhi Capitals in IPL, and the second-highest in this season. Overall highest opening stand by Delhi Capitals, is 151 runs between Mahela Jayawardene and Virender Sehwag against MI in 2013.

132 – Partnership between Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan which is now the second-highest opening partnership of any team against Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. The only higher opening stand against KKR is 139 runs by David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan for SRH in 2017.

2 – This is only the second time where both the No.4 and No.5 batsmen for Kolkata Knight Riders were out for a duck. The first time it happened was in 2012, also against Delhi Capitals. The batsmen out for ducks then were Manoj Tiwary and Yusuf Pathan, in a reduced 12-over game.

2 – This is the second duck in a row for Sunil Narine in IPL, and third in five innings. He scored only 23 runs in his last 7 IPL innings, at an average of 3.28.

2012 – Before today, the last time Narine was out for a first-ball duck in IPL, was against RR back in April 2012. It was in his debut IPL match.

6000 – Andre Russell now reaches 6000 T20 runs during his knock, becoming the fastest player to 6000 runs by balls faced.

2016 – Before Prithvi Shaw today, the last time a Delhi Capitals opener scored 50+ runs at a 200+ strike rate was by Quinton de Kock against RCB in 2016.

18 – Prithvi Shaw reached his fifty in just 18 balls today. This is the second-fastest by a Delhi Capitals player in IPL, tied with Rishabh Pant against MI in 2019. Only Chris Morris has a faster IPL fifty, reaching there in 17 balls against GL in 2016.

1 – Prithvi Shaw became only the second player to hit 6 fours in an over in IPL. The first was Ajinkya Rahane against RCB in 2012.

1 – Shaw is the first-ever player to hit 6 boundaries (fours or sixes) in the first over of an IPL inning.
