IPL 2021 Auction: Three teams that can bid for Shaun Marsh
Regardless of being an enigma in Australia’s domestic cricket circuit and also by being IPL’s first orange cap holder, Marsh is yet to attain some prosperity in T20’s biggest carnival. Although he went unsold in last year’s auction, the 37-year old is still in high spirits to bag an IPL contract. Moreover, the left-hander recently had a satisfactory season with Melbourne Renegades (312 runs from 12 innings) in the BBL. So his current form might propel some Scouters to add him to their arsenal. Hence let’s check out the three viable teams which can book this Aussie veteran.
3. Chennai Super Kings
With Shane Watson saying good-bye to all forms of cricket, the yellow army is now immaculately left with a single top-order batsman in Faf Du Plessis. Last year, because of their excessive inferiority at the top, CSK’s batting looked utterly bleak. To fix this problem, the team management can fetch Shaun Marsh as a direct replacement of Shane Watson. His batting can be a good inclusion at the top, mainly because of his knack of amassing big scores as an opener. In addition to that, his distinctive ability to play spin well has been one of the top reasons why the Australian selectors used to prefer him for the sub-continent tours. Overall, Marsh does look like an exciting package who can distinctly hone his batting skills based on CSK’s batting requirements.
2. Royal Challengers Bangalore
Another team where Shaun Marsh can again be viewed as a potential replacement option is in place of the recently released Aaron Finch. The Australian skipper reasonably had an arid season with the RCB camp and hence was released into the auction pool. Marsh’s proposition, on the other hand, although might not be a vigorous direct replacement but can add a lot of value in their batting department. If acquired then both Marsh and Padikkal can become a steadfast opening pair for RCB, thus allowing the likes of De Villiers and skipper Kohli to play more freely. He can also become one of their prudent backups, as RCB is currently only upholding Josh Philippe and De Villiers as their two overseas batters.
1. Kings XI Punjab
Regardless of only featuring for KXIP in the IPL, Shaun Marsh can once again add some pompous value for his former franchise. Although the team has a very sturdy top three featuring the likes of skipper KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal & and the universal boss Chris Gayle, Marsh’s services can become one of the genuine backups for them. We have seen Chris Gayle missing some games so hence in between Marsh’s availability can come handy. In addition to that, just like RCB, the KXIP camp is also left with two overseas batters (Chris Gayle & Nicholas Pooran). Hence all in all with an elusive demand Shaun Marsh can once again be bagged at a reasonable rate by KXIP.
