IPL 2021 Auction: The amount of money left with all eight IPL franchises
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the guidelines for hosting the auctions for the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Since the Indian board has approved the idea of including two new teams in the T20 Championship from IPL 2022, instead of the mega-auction, a mini-auction will be organized ahead of IPL 2021.
Thus, the IPL governing council has formally told all the eight franchises to submit the final list of players they are keen on retaining for this edition of the Indian league by January 21. Also, the trading window will close on February 4 for the franchises while the authorities are likely to host the auction for the 14th edition on February 11, 2021.
The players had signed a 3-year contract with the franchises in 2018, which ended in 2020. Thus, before mini-auction, BCCI and franchises will complete contractual formalities with those players whom teams would like to retain for IPL 2021 season.
The teams can retain three players and can have two more players back using the Right To Match (RTM) card. The purse money will not be exceeded and the franchises will have to do the job with a total of INR 85 crore money only. Thus the purse left for the mini-auction will be dependent on the fact that how much money the teams are left with after deciding on the retained players.
The purse left with the eight franchises for IPL 2021
As of now, the three-time champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are left with a purse of INR 0.15 crore. Therefore, it is speculated that the franchise will release a few big names as they have to build their squad from the scratch after a torrid run in IPL 2020. The defending champions Mumbai Indians also have a less amount under their belt, INR 1.95 crore, but they will be hardly interfering with their winning Playing XI combination.
Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has only 6.4 crores to their name while Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have a remaining purse of about INR 8.5 crore. The runners-up Delhi Capitals (DC) also have INR 9 crores and the David Warner led-Sunrisers Hyderabad boasts of having INR 10.1 crores.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) have INR 14.75 crore purse left while Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) have INR 16.5 crore in their kitty.
