IPL 2021 Auction: 3 franchises that can target Kiwi pacer Kyle Jamieson
Ever since his action-packed debut against India, Kyle Jamieson has been one of the most celebrated fast bowlers in international cricket. Being a tall lad, his bowling offers a cumbersome bounce along with his ability to move the ball around. With his vigorous performances, the right-arm pacer has fetched worthy acclamations, thus making him one of the valuable weapons of NZ’s bowling attack.
The 26-year old now has been approved in the upcoming IPL 2021 auction list. Let’s look at three such franchises that can get into a bidding war for the pacer:
1. Mumbai Indians
We all know how the Mumbai Indians think tank likes to pile up a stack of overseas pacers in their armoury. This policy not only allows them to have prudent backups for their frontline pacers, but the available variety also produces enough fortitude when required. Now in the upfront of the 2021 auction, the MI side has released a majority of its overseas pacers like James Pattinson, Mitchell McClenaghan, Nathan Coulter Nile, and Lasith Malinga (retired). So to accommodate their two front-line pacers (Jasprit Bumrah & Trent Boult), they at least would be hunting for two overseas pacers. With Jamieson’s availability at the auction table, his exuberant proposition can fill in the void at the MI camp. Both Boult and Jamieson can become a fearsome pair with the new ball hence allowing MI’s bowling attack to look more lethal.
2. Kings XI Punjab
A team like KXIP would definitely like to infuse a proposition like Kyle Jamieson. At present their bowling attack is highly deficient in quality fast bowling. By analyzing their current crop, firstly there’s the profusion of Mohammed Shami who has been a robust leader with the ball. The services of Chris Jordan and Sheldon Cottrell were highly inferior and that’s the reason why one of them was sent back into the auctions. All in all, regardless of Shami and the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Ishan Porel and Darshan Nalkande, the franchise needs some stable overseas pace bowling options. Hence one might see KXIP vigorously targeting the kiwi pacer to make a right fit.
3. Royal Challengers Bangalore
Another franchise that does stand similarly poised as KXIP is the red army. Prior to the upcoming auctions, they do require at least a couple of overseas pacers especially when it comes to filling the voids of Dale Steyn, Chris Morris and Isuru Udana who had a decent last season. Jamieson’s acquisition will bring variety in their bowling attack along with Kane Richardson whose services have been retained. It also gives skipper Virat Kohli a genuine wicket-taking option at the top. Hence it will be interesting to see how much RCB pounds to get a commodity like Jamieson.
