IPL 2020: Tendulkar dissects bowling variations of Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar
Chennai Super Kings faced Royal challengers Bangalore in the 25th match of IPL 2020. In this match played at Dubai, Bangalore posted 169/4 in their 20 overs while Chennai could manage only 132/8 in reply. The Bangalore team ended up winning the encounter by 37 runs. However, two bowlers from the Chennai team impressed Sachin Tendulkar in particular. The Master Blaster in his latest video posted from his official YouTube channel dissects their bowling variations.
Deepak Chahar’s inswingers
Deepak Chahar is known for his masterful outswingers. In helpful conditions, Chahar can run through the batting line-ups with the new ball. In the 2019 IPL, he picked up 22 wickets in just 17 matches. However, Tendulkar spotted something special in his bowling in this year’s IPL.
Tendulkar noted that the medium-pacer is also using inswingers in this season. The legend further explained how to bowl an inswinger. As per the batting maestro, mixing these two variations on a fresh wicket which had patches of grass on it helped Chahar dismiss Aaron Finch.
Thakur bowling cross-seam
While an upright seam is very important in swinging the ball, Tendulkar noted that Shardul Thakur is primarily bowling cross-seam deliveries. By imparting a lot of backspin, the bowler is trying to beat the batsman’s bat. Thakur also slants the cross-seam towards the first slip which helps him in getting some movement off the pitch. According to Tendulkar, that was how Thakur dismissed AB de Villiers.
