IPL 2020: SRH vs CSK Review – Chennai choke Hyderabad to lift 3rd win
The second half of IPL 2020 began on Tuesday with Match 29 taking place between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad and the game lived up to its billing. The winning margin doesn’t suggest how close it was but SRH fell short of the target in the end.
Earlier, it was Chennai who won the toss and batted first. All their batsmen contributed well to post a par total of 167 runs on the board. Ravindra Jadeja’s quickfire 25* off 10 balls were crucial though. Even Sam Curran opening the innings was the talking point as he smashed 31 off 20 deliveries.
In response, SRH started off slowly as their skipper David Warner got out to Curran early. Kane Williamson held one end throughout the chase to score a fine, well-deserved half-century. But they were always behind the required run-rate and kept looking for one big over. They finally got it with Williamson and Rashid Khan scoring 19 runs in the 18th over bowled by Karn Sharma. But Williamson got out in the same over and Shardul and Bravo delivered superbly in the last two overs to seal the deal for CSK.
Turning Points
SRH openers getting out early: It is important for a team while defending a middling total to get early wickets. Chennai did just that. Both SRH openers David Warner and Bairstow were in great form. But both of them failed to give a good start to the team, thanks to some good bowling upfront from Sam Curran and Deepak Chahar. The former ended up picking the prized scalp of Warner. Bairstow stayed in the middle for a while but could never get going and was castled by Ravindra Jadeja in the end. Their openers not clicking was a crucial moment in the game.
