IPL 2020: RR vs CSK Preview – Buttler-less Royals face a stiff challenge

Jofra Archer

The finalists of the inaugural IPL season, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings would be in action in this game. A lot has changed since then. CSK has emerged as the most consistent franchise in the history of the league. Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals have faded away after their victory in the initial season.

Both the teams fared well the last time IPL was played in the UAE. CSK won 4 out of their 5 games, while RR won 3. The likes of Steve Smith and Sanju Samson would be raring to showcase their skills for Rajasthan, while CSK would hope to maintain the consistency like they always do after winning their opening game comfortably against MI.

Venue- Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Dubai

Time – 7:30 PM IST

Head To Head:

Stat Attack:

Chennai Super Kings have defeated Rajasthan Royals four times in their last five encounters.

Ravindra Jadeja has dismissed Steve Smith five times in their 11 meetings.

With three more wickets, Deepak Chahar will reach the milestone of 100 wickets in T20 cricket.

Team News:

Rajasthan Royals:

Jos Buttler has been ruled out of the tournament opener for the Royals due to an extended six-day quarantine for him. They would also be missing the services of their star all-rounder Ben Stokes, who is in New Zealand due to family commitments. RR would be hoping for their Indian core to step up in the absence of these foreign mainstays.

Chennai Super Kings:

CSK would be confident going into this fixture, coming off the back of a good victory against Mumbai Indians. Dwayne Bravo is most likely to miss out on this game as well, owing to a knee injury. His replacement Sam Curran had a good game, and he would be looking to continue that form. After Bravo’s return, Fleming didn’t rule out the possibility of both all-rounders playing together in the playing XI. The Yellow Army can give an opportunity to Ruturaj Gaikwad in place of Murali Vijay at the opening slot.
