IPL 2020: MI vs RR Review – Mumbai stun clueless Royals to register 57-run win

Mumbai

Mumbai Indians registered their third consecutive win in the IPL with a 57-run victory over Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday. It was a comprehensive performance from the three-time champions who never gave any chance to the opposition to make a comeback.

After opting to bat first, Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock gave a good start to the innings. However, it was Suryakumar Yadav who turned the game on its head with his blitzkrieg knock – one that was a long time coming. He smashed an unbeaten 79 off 47 deliveries and played some amazing strokes to leave the bowlers stunned. In the end, Mumbai managed to post 193/4 in their 20 overs.

Rajasthan were never in the chase to begin with. None of their batsmen apart from Jos Buttler looked to spend time in the middle. Buttler batted superbly and scored 70 off just 44 balls before getting out. Even after that, the Royals were 98/5 which clearly indicates the sorry performance from their batsmen. They could add only 38 runs after Buttler’s dismissal and were eventually bowled out for 136 in 18.1 overs.

Turning Points

Surya shines – Mumbai’s No.3 batsman was throwing away his starts, finding ways to get out in the earlier matches. But it was a perfect day for him in the middle as he seemed to time the ball perfectly. Mumbai looked in a bit of soup after losing Rohit and Kishan off consecutive deliveries. But he made sure that they never lost any momentum in the innings and played a brilliant knock. His unbeaten 79 included 11 fours and two sixes.

Mumbai

Jasprit Bumrah’s four-fer: Pacers James Pattinson and Trent Boult have usually been taking the new ball for Mumbai from the start of this season. But this time around, Rohit handed the new ball to Jasprit Bumrah and the move worked wonders for the team. He nipped out Steve Smith early in the second innings and rocked the Royals’ chase. Rajasthan never recovered and Bumrah ended up with four wickets to his name.
