IPL 2020: MI vs RCB Review – Sensational Surya takes Mumbai home

Mumbai Indians (MI) have almost secured their playoff spot in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) after a comfortable win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in Abu Dhabi. After losing the toss, RCB started well thanks to their new opening pair in Josh Phillipe and Devdutt Padikkal. The duo added 71 runs together before Phillipe got out on 33.

However, Padikkal continued to bat in the same fashion taking on MI bowlers. His flick shots were superb to watch as the southpaw scored 74 runs off 45 balls. But RCB lost their way completely in the last five overs. From 129/2, they collapsed to 138/6 in a matter of 14 balls and they never got the final push in the death overs. Eventually, they only posted 164 runs in their 20 overs.

MI began their chase cautiously. However, in the 6th over, Quinton de Kock was holed out in the deep even as Ishan Kishan also threw his wicket away after getting his eye in. RCB, by this point, were having good control over the proceedings. But then Suryakumar Yadav arrived and the game went away from them. Despite Saurabh Tiwary and Krunal Pandya getting out, Surya batted well to keep the team ahead in the chase.

Hardik Pandya did his bit smashing a couple of sixes and fittingly, Surya finished the game in style in the last over as MI got over the line with five wickets in hand.

Turning points

ABD-Kohli wickets – There is no denying that these two batsmen are priceless for RCB and getting both of them early gives a huge advantage to the opposition. MI did just that in this game. Jasprit Bumrah nipped out Kohli with a bouncer when the RCB skipper was looking to settle down. Kieron Pollard then took matters in his own hands in the 16th over to send back De Villiers off a full toss when the stage was set for him to go berserk. Wickets at these crucial junctures kept RCB away from upping the ante and they finished 20 runs short.

Suryakumar Yadav’s knock – No prizes for guessing this. It had to be Suryakumar Yadav. 48 hours after selectors once again ignored him yet again for the Australia tour, Surya played a blinder of a knock when his teammates struggled to get going. His ability to hit all parts of the ground makes him special and the same was on display in this game. He made sure to stay in the middle till the end and finish the game for his team.
