IPL 2020: MI vs KXIP Review – Historic double Super Over hands Punjab a thrilling win
It was the best game of the IPL hands down! The skill level of players was at the top and it took the two Super Overs to separate the two sides, Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab. In the end, it was KXIP who grabbed a crucial two points and finally jumped to the sixth position in the points table with their third win of IPL 2020.
The drama
After both teams ended at 163 after the regulation 40 overs, the game went into a Super Over. Jasprit Bumrah showed his class against KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda to concede only five runs. It was MI’s game to lose with Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock coming out to bat. However, Mohammed Shami had other ideas as he ended up defending six runs. The Super Over also resulted in a tie and for the first time in the history of T20 cricket, the game went into the second Super Over.
MI had to bat first this time and Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard walked out in the middle. The latter made sure they posted 11 runs off Chris Jordan. It would’ve been 15 if not for Mayank Agarwal’s sensational effort in the deep to save a six. Chris Gayle and Agarwal came out for the chase and the former lived up to his reputation, smacking the first ball from Trent Boult for a six. Agarwal then took charge and finished the game to keep KXIP well and truly alive in the tournament.
Pollard’s late blitz
Earlier, MI won the toss and opted to bat first. They lost three wickets for just 38 runs before Krunal and De Kock resurrected the innings. However, they managed to post a total of 176 runs on the board due to the blitzkrieg from Pollard and Coulter-Nile. The duo added 57 runs off last 21 balls to turn the game on its head.
The chase had a lot of ups and downs. KL Rahul yet again stood firm for his team and scored a vital 77 even as the wickets kept falling. Gayle and Pooran played cameos and in the end, it was up to Deepak Hooda to finish the game off. However, Boult ended up defending 9 runs in the final over to tie the game.

Moment of the match
Match-winning save and then match-winning runs. This must be very reassuring for Mayank Agarwal after receiving flak in the first match against DC. https://t.co/NpTqqM1CIQ pic.twitter.com/sMG37Cwpev
