After crossing so many hurdles put up by the coronavirus pandemic, the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to get underway. Two of the most successful teams in the history of the cash-rich league, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will be locking horns in the opening game. The clash between the two sides is termed as “El Clasico” of the IPL. Mumbai would look to maintain their winning run against the Yellow Army, while CSK would look to avenge for their one-run loss in the final last year.

The defending champions will miss the services of veteran Lasith Malinga, who pulled out of the IPL citing personal reasons. James Pattinson has replaced him in the squad. But he is expected to warm the bench at least for the first few matches. MI coach Mahela Jayawardene has stated that they would not like to tinker with the opening combination of Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma.

Chennai Super Kings:

Josh Hazlewood and Sam Curran are unlikely to play soon after their 36-hour quarantine ends. Ruturaj Gaikwad is set to miss the opening game and is still in isolation. Although Deepak Chahar is fit and raring to go, a call regarding him shall only be taken before the game.
