IPL 2020 likely to be held in UAE
The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Tuesday confirmed it has written to the Indian government seeking permission to host IPL 2020 in the UAE. The formal announcement is yet to happen.
On Monday (July 21), the ICC announced it has officially postponed the Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 by a year. Following the decision, the BCCI reportedly began planning the 13th season of the premier T20 tournament.
“We have written to the government seeking permission to host the tournament in UAE,” Cricbuzz quoted IPL GC Chairman Brijesh Patel.
“The dates have not been finalised as yet and will be decided at the (next) IPL GC, which will be held in the next seven or ten days.”
In the past few months, the BCCI is said to have looked at alternative venues, considering the pandemic situation in India. It was understood that cricket boards of Sri Lanka, UAE and New Zealand had come forward to host the competition. However, Patel reaffirmed that the board hasn’t ruled out hosting the tournament in India. A final decision is expected to come out in the upcoming IPL Governing Council meeting.
