IPL 2020: DC vs RCB Review – Rahane, Dhawan star as Delhi finish second on points table
The Delhi Capitals defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 8 wickets in their last league game to bag two valuable points and finish second on the points table in the ongoing IPL 2020. Ajinkya Rahane slammed a 46-ball 60 while Anrich Nortje shone with 3 wickets. Delhi will next face defending champions Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 1 on 5th November.
Earlier, Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to field first. Josh Philippe couldn’t do much as he lost his wicket to Kagiso Rabada on the latter’s first delivery. Devdutt Padikkal continued his fine form and registered his fifth fifty of the tournament but couldn’t convert the knock into a big one. Virat Kohli displayed a lot of intent but lost his wicket at a crucial moment for a 24-ball 29. Nortje was the chief destructor for Capitals as he picked three big wickets for his franchise. AB de Villiers (35) and Shivam Dube (17) tried their best to take RCB above the 150-run mark.
With 153 runs to win, Delhi openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan came out all guns blazing. But Shaw failed to make an impact yet again with just 9 runs to his name. Dhawan, the player for big moments, stepped up with a fifty to keep his team in a strong position before getting out to Shahbaz Ahmed.
Ajinkya Rahane, who came in at No. 3, smashed some textbook shots to keep Delhi in the game. His half-century was vital in Delhi’s victory over the Virat Kohli-led side. In the end, Pant and Stoinis steered DC to a comfortable win.
As of now, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore have sealed their spots in the playoffs. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders will be eyeing the lone available spot.
Turning Point
Nortje’s final spell – The South African speedster helped Delhi Capitals in picking three crucial wickets of Devdutt Padikkal, Chris Morris and Isuru Udana. Padikkal was the set batsman and his wicket resulted in RCB losing at least 15-20 more runs in the end.
