IPL 2019: Key battles to watch out for as KXIP hosts MI
Two teams which won their previous matches controversially will be colliding at the PCA Stadium, Mohali. R Ashwin’s mankading act shook the cricketing world in KXIP’s win while MI’s victory against RCB was marred by the last ball no-ball. However, with a win under their belts, they will want to keep the winning streak alive. From this exciting tussle, the following three key battles will be mouth-watering.
Yuvraj Singh vs Kings XI Punjab
Regardless of his performances, Yuvraj Singh has always been the darling of all IPL franchises. The Punjabi superstar was the icon player for Kings XI Punjab in the inaugural IPL. After 2010, he represented four different franchises before coming back to Punjab. This year at the auctions, KXIP showed no interest in buying him back and Mumbai Indians pounced on the opportunity. This match pits KXIP’s former icon player and Punjab’s son against his own side.
Chris Gayle against Jasprit Bumrah and Laith Malinga
World’s most dangerous opener against world’s best white-ball bowlers, it’s the fascinating contest that everyone is waiting for. Chris Gayle may not be at his prime as a batsman, but he hasn’t lost his mojo. The same applies to Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga, who served MI as a mentor last season. Bumrah has evolved into a world-class pace bowler and his primary duty for this match will be to stop the Gayle storm.
Mayank Agarwal against Mayank Markande
It’s the battle of Mayanks. Mayank Agarwal enjoyed phenomenal success in the Indian domestic arena but had a miserable IPL 2018. This season, he has begun well with the knocks of 22 and 58. Batting versus Mumbai Indians, he will face the threat of the 21-year old leg spinner Mayank Markande. The leggie was the star of MI’s campaign last year. Against RCB, he recorded the figures of 1/23. Markande will be eager to make his mark this season.
