Inzamam-ul-Haq reveals Sachin Tendulkar’s best innings in his opinion
Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar has 100 international centuries in his bag, and all of them are unique in their own ways. However, a knock or two become people’s favourite due to certain aspects, and so is the case with former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq. Inzamam believes that Tendulkar’s splendid innings against Pakistan in the 2003 World Cup were the best. He stated that they were confident enough of winning that game before Tendulkar shifted the momentum completely.
After posting the score of 273 runs on the board, the men in green were confident enough to dominate the day. Inzamam lauded the spectacular innings by their opener Saeed Anwar who smashed 101 off 126 balls to boost their batting set up. When came the turn for the little master, he turned tables by playing a brilliant knock of 98 off 75 deliveries. Inzi named those innings as the best, and his comments came when star spinner Ravi Ashwin asked him about that time in Centurion, South Africa.
“I have asked the same question, Sachin paaji, but I want to ask you now. In the 2003 World Cup game between India and Pakistan, Pakistan had posted a huge score. Saeed Anwar scored a century, but after that Sehwag, and Sachin played well, and India won the match. At the halfway mark did you believe that you have enough to win the match, or was the score under par?,” enquired Ashwin on his YouTube show ‘DRS with Ash’.
I feel that was Sachin’s best innings: Inzamam
The Pakistan side boasted of a great bowling line up back then by having the likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Shoaib Akhtar, but Tendulkar was adamant enough to walk away with a victory. He started his heroics while not allowing a line of pressure to see him in the crunch situations. And this how the innings became Pakistani’s favourite.
“I have seen Sachin play a lot but the way he batted in that match; I have never seen him play like that before. The way he played against our fast bowlers in those conditions was superb. I think he scored 98 before getting out to Shoaib Akhtar. I feel that was Sachin’s best innings,” concluded Inzamam.
