India’s three shortest completed ODI innings in the 21st century
It happens on rare occasions when a team suffers the lowest score and you don’t quite often see it happening with team India whose batting has been their power for over the years now in all formats. But in the 21st century, there have been instances when the Asian giant has recorded the shortest innings by deliveries in the 50-overs format.
Let’s take a look at the 3 shortest completed innings by team India in the ODIs in the 21st Century
123 all-out (25 overs vs West Indies in 2002)
With the first two ODIs getting abandoned due to rain and India winning the third clash, skipper Sourav Ganguly won the toss and opted to bat first in the fourth of the five-match ODI series at Queen’s Park Oval in Port-of-Spain in Trinidad. Ganguly himself was the highest run-scorer for his side as he scored 39 with the next best being Rahul Dravid for 28 runs. All other Indian batters struggled as West Indies pacers took seven wickets in between them with Corey Collymore snaring three. India got bundled out for just 123 runs in exactly 25 overs facing 150 deliveries. The Caribbean team chased down the target in 22.1 overs to level the series 1-1.
105 all-out (25.3 overs vs Bangladesh in 2014)
Having won the first ODI, India locked horns with Bangladesh in the second of the three-match series at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. The host’s captain Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and chose to field first. Taskin Ahmed bowled brilliantly to bag a five-wicket haul as he bowled India out for a paltry 105 runs in 25.3 overs (153 balls). Skipper Suresh Raina top-scored for India as he made 27 runs while the rest had no answers to Bangladesh pacers. Stuart Binny then wreaked havoc as he registered a magical spell of 6 wickets for just four runs to claim an unbelievable victory for team India with the Bangla Tigers getting all out for a shocking 58 runs.
103 all-out (26.3 overs vs Sri Lanka in 2008)
Having already won the series, India faced Sri Lanka in the final ODI of the five-match series at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. The hosts posted 227/6 in their allotted 50 overs thanks to efforts from the lower-middle order. In reply, Virat Kohli, playing only his fifth ODI, top-scored for the Indians as he amassed 31 runs while opening the batting. Nuwan Kulasekara and Ajantha Mendis took four wickets each to bowl the visitors out for just 103 runs in 26.3 overs (159 balls). India lost the match by 112 runs on the D/L method but bagged the series 3-2.
