India Women to play white-ball series against Sri Lanka in June
Indian women’s cricket team will tour Sri Lanka for three ODIs and as many T20Is, slated to start in June. It will be the first time since the 2022 Women’s World Cup that the Women in Blue will be seen in action in an international assignment. The Indian team will start their tour on June 23 and the last match of the series will be played on July 7.
According to reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) senior selection committee for women will soon set a meeting to pick the squads for the upcoming tour. The BCCI selection committee is also expected to name a new ODI captain with an eye on the future.
Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami to not feature in Women’s T20 Challenge
Meanwhile, this major report was carried out by India Today. Current Indian skipper and veteran Mithali Raj, who led India at the World Cup earlier this year, has not announced her retirement from the game as yet and it is a possibility that the BCCI is now looking for new options to lead Team India. It must be noted that both Mithali and senior pacer Jhulan Goswami were not named in the squads for the upcoming Women’s T20 Challenge.
All-rounder Deepti Sharma has already replaced Mithali as the captain of the Velocity team. The Women’s T20 Challenge is set to commence on May 23. The second and third games will take place on May 24 and 26 respectively and the final is set to happen on May 28, on the eve of the Men’s IPL final. All the matches will be played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune.
Apart from Indian superstars, Sophie Ecclestone, Laura Wolvaardt, Deandra Dottin, Alana King, Suné Luus and Hayley Matthews are some of the foreign players who have signed up to play in the tournament. This is expected to be the final edition of the Women’s T20 Challenge with the BCCI planning a full-fledged six-team Women’s IPL from next year.
