India to tour Bangladesh for two Tests and three ODIs in 2022: Reports
There was a time when Team India would travel to Bangladesh for a series once in a while. As a matter of fact, during the previous six-year cycle of ICC FTP (Future Tours Programme) which lasted between 2013 and 2018, India toured Bangladesh twice in 2014 and 2015. However, there haven’t been any tours scheduled since then.
In a new report around the broadcasting rights deals sold by Bangladesh Cricket Board, it was revealed that the Indian team will travel to their neighbouring country in November 2022. The report stated that the series will have two Tests and three ODIs. In 2015, when India went to Bangladesh, they played a one-off Test and three ODIs.
Since that tour in 2015, Bangladesh has toured India twice. In 2017, the Bangla Tigers came to India for a one-off Test. In 2019, the two teams once again played a series that consisted of two Tests and three T20Is. The two Tests, which were played in Indore and Kolkata, were part of the ICC World Test Championship 2019-21.
Seven international teams to visit Bangladesh till 2023
ESPNCricinfo also reported on Bangladesh Cricket Board selling the broadcasting rights for the cricket matches to be played between 2021 and 2023. This year itself, Bangladesh has a few big series’ coming their way. Australia would be touring them for a limited-overs series, whose itinerary has not been revealed yet.
England, too, is scheduled to play a T20I and an ODI series in Bangladesh, right before the ICC T20 World Cup. New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and West Indies are also scheduled to tour Bangladesh till January 2023. However, the tour of the Indian team next year will be held in higher regard.
The last time when India toured Bangladesh, they disappointingly lost their first ODI series against them. Since then, there is hardly any ODI team against which India has played and not won a bilateral series. It should also be noted that apart from that ODI series, India’s only Test suffered a massive rain crisis and was called off without even the third innings being completed.
