India announced squad for Ireland T20Is, Jasprit Bumrah to lead
The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) recently came forward to announce team India’s squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Ireland. In brilliant news for both the team and the fans, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah makes his much-anticipated return. The pacer was also named as the Indian skipper for the games against Ireland.
Bumrah has been out of contention for selection for more than a year. He sustained a stress fracture in his lower back in July 2022. Due to the major injury, Bumrah missed many big tournaments, like the T20 World Cup 2022 & The Asia Cup 2022. The list also includes 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023).
With Bumrah returning to international cricket as the skipper for the games against Ireland, the fans will lie in wait to see one of the best pacers in world cricket in action once more. They will hope that he will be back to full fitness for the upcoming ODI World Cup as well.
Ruturaj Gaikwad named vice-captain for Ireland series
Furthermore, Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad was announced the vice-captain for the three-match series against Ireland. The Indian team that will be travelling to Malahide, boasts a plethora of young talents, including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, and many more.
Prasidh Krishna also makes his return to the Indian squad, as he too was out of contention due to injury. Notably, Bumrah and Krishna were recently seen bowling to Mumbai batters in practice matches as well. Training hard at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), both pacers will be hopeful that they can make their return to international cricket at peak fitness.
Currently, the Indian team is in the Caribbean as they take on the West Indies in a multi-format series. They will look to clinch the series and end it on a positive note ahead of their clash against Ireland. India will play their first T20I of the series against Ireland at The Village in Malahide on Friday, August 18.
