India announce their 15-man squad for T20 World Cup 2021

The BCCI has announced India’s 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup 2021. The selectors have decided to recall Ravichandran Ashwin in white-ball cricket while Shikhar Dhawan, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have failed to earn a selection. Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar have been named amongst reserve players.

The BCCI has also confirmed that the former Indian captain MS Dhoni will be mentoring this team in the World Cup. He shall accompany the side and provide his valuable inputs. MS Dhoni is the only Indian captain to win a T20 World Cup.

Coming back to the squad, India are likely to persist with the opening partnership of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. KL Rahul could play multiple roles depending on the team combination. Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan are the wicketkeeping options along with KL Rahul. Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are the middle-order batting options.

In the bowling department, Kohli has decided to go in with three pacers in Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.  R Ashwin, Varun Chakravarthy, Rahul Chahar and Axar Patel make up the spin department.
