IND vs WI: ODI matches to be held behind closed doors, confirms GCA
The Gujarat Cricket Association(GCA) has considered the ongoing Covid-19 situation in the country and has confirmed that the ODI series against West Indies will take place behind closed doors. The T20Is at the Eden Garden in Kolkata will have a capacity of 75 percent crowd and this will be a huge boost to the fans who have always been passionate about the game. The West Indies side will tour India for a three-match ODI series starting from 6th February and it will be followed by a three T20I series as well.
Rohit Sharma will start as the full-time captain for India in the limited-overs series for the first time and Virat Kohli will be playing as a pure batter after a long time. KL Rahul was named Rohit’s deputy while this series is expected to provide an opportunity for a lot of newcomers after a poor tour of South Africa. India lost the ODI series 0-3 and the Test series 1-2 in South Africa and hence, this home series against West Indies is going to be vital in building the side for the upcoming ICC tournaments.
Gujarat Cricket Association addresses India’s special feat
The Twitter official handle of the Gujarat Cricket Association recently tweeted about the three 50 over matches against West Indies getting underway within closed doors and was delighted by the fact that India will be playing its 1000th ODI at the ground. The second closest side to India’s tally of 999 ODI games in Australia with 958 games and this will be a massive moment in India’s cricket development.
“Considering the current situation, all the matches will be played behind the closed doors,” the official handle of Gujarat Cricket Association tweeted.
“We are all set to host West Indies Tour of India ODI Series 2022. 1st ODI on the 6th of Feb will be a very special and historic match as India will be playing its 1000th ODI. The Indian team will be the first cricket team in the world to achieve this feat,” it added
West Indies are coming off a 3-2 T20I series win against England and will be riding high on confidence with Jason Holder’s brilliance throughout the games. The Kieron Pollard led-side has a lot of match-winners in the side and the board recently named their 16-man squad for the ODI series.
