IND vs SL Review: Sri Lanka pull off a stunning chase against India
Sri Lanka thrashed the Indian team in their second Super 4 match of the 2022 T20 Asia Cup with the Lanka skipper playing a crucial role in the match. Talking about the first innings, India suffered some early jolts with opening batter KL Rahul and former Indian skipper Virat Kohli failing to score runs. However, India’s ship was steadied by skipper Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav.
Young pacer Dilshan Madushanka was the prominent bowler in Sri Lanka’s fightback late in the innings, Madhushanka scalped three crucial wickets and gave away just 24 runs in his bowling effort, which triggered a late collapse despite Rohit Sharma (72) and Suryakumar Yadav’s (34).
Apart from Madushanka, Chamika Karunaratne also proved handy for the Lankans with his bowling contribution of 2/27 from four overs, which included the big wicket of Rohit in the 13th over. Despite all of the chaos, India managed to cross the 170-run mark in their allotted 20 overs.
Chasing 174, Sri Lanka had a flying start to their chase as they smoked the Indian bowlers all around the park. Opening batter Pathum Nissanka completed a superlative fifty with the bat while senior batter Kusal Mendis also played well for his half-century. The Men in Blue fought back well but an excellent display of batting performance from Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa ensured that they win against the mighty Indians.
