IND vs SA: 2nd ODI Review – Iyer, Ishan seal India’s series win
Team India completed an easy victory over South Africa in the second ODI encounter played in JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on October 9 (Sunday). Batters Shreyas Iyer and Ishan shone with the bat while Indian pacer Mohammad Siraj wreaked havoc with the ball.
Talking about the game, South Africa won the toss and decided to have a bat first. Siraj gave an early jolt to the Proteas as he sent Quinton de Kock back to the pavilion. Janneman Malan also got a start with the bat, but he could not convert his start into a big total.
Batters Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram were the top performers for the visiting team, but they got out at the wrong time. Miller tried to repeat his antics from the last match, but he was not at his fluent best as the visiting team finished 278 runs in its allotted 50 overs.
In reply, Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill gave a good start to the home team, but both of them got out despite getting a good start. Local boy Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer then took responsibility on themselves and added a 100+ runs match-winning partnership.
Kishan missed his century by just seven runs, but Iyer remained unbeaten and also completed his hundred with Samson playing a decent knock of 30* runs. India have now levelled the series and will take on South Africa in a series decider in the final match to be played in Delhi.
Top performers of the match:
Shreyas Iyer:
Batter Shreyas Iyer completed his hundred in the match and ensured that his team wins the match without any hiccups. The right-handed batter scored 113 runs in just 111 balls and smacked 15 boundaries.
Mohammed Siraj:
Pacer Mohammed Siraj was simply too good for the Proteas batters. He scalped three crucial wickets for his side and bowled an outstanding death overs spell for the Men in Blue.
What’s next for both sides?
Both teams will now face each other in the series decider to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on October 11 (Tuesday).
