IND vs SA, 1st Test: Records galore for Rohit and Mayank

India had a dominant showing on Day 2 of the first Test against South Africa at Visakhapatnam. The Indian batters continued to pile on the runs, posting a score of 502-7 declared. The spinners then got into the action, picking up 3 wickets before the end of the play, leaving South Africa reeling at 39/3. The day saw many records tumble as the Indian openers Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma made merry on a flat deck against a pedestrian Proteas bowling attack. Here we list down a few of them.

Rohit, Mayank make Proteas toil

Starting the day at 202-o, Mayank and Rohit further made the visitors suffer in the first session of the match. They established an opening partnership of 317 before Rohit was eventually dismissed at 176. This stand was the third-highest partnership of all-time for India. They now trail Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy’s stand of 413 against New Zealand in 1956 in aChennai and 410 between Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag against Pakistan in Lahore in 2006.

Mayank grabs his opportunity with both hands

With his knock of 215, Mayank Agarwal became only the fourth Indian batsman to convert his maiden Test century into a double ton. Dilip Sardesai (200*) versus in 1965, Vinod Kambli (224) against England in 1993 and Karun Nair (303*) against England in 2016 are the only other Indians to accomplish this feat.

Rohit adds another milestone

Rohit Sharma with his century in Vizag became the only Indian to hit centuries in all the three formats of the game. He has hit a century now in both his Test debut and his debut as an opener in the longest form of the game. He also became the first player to hit a ton in the ICC Champions Trophy, the ICC World Cup and ICC World Test Championship. Truly, a magnificent feat!
