IND vs ENG: Sunil Gavaskar hails Virat Kohli’s side as the best ever

The Indian team under the leadership of Virat Kohli has performed exceptionally over the past few years. Considering the way in which the team has performed in the past few years, this team can be compared to the best Test teams of the past, such as Graeme Smith’s South Africa, Ricky Ponting’s Australia or Clive Llyod’s West Indies.

Former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has praised Kohli for his leadership and his consistency as a captain. The team under his captaincy has been quite fantastic and has beaten each and every opposition at home, along with a series win against Australia in their backyard.

Gavaskar drew comparisons of Kohli’s team with the dominant teams of the past. He mentioned captains like Steve Waugh, Clive Llyod and Viv Richards. Gavaskar also pointed out that this team has won everywhere. The Indian team has won Tests in South Africa and England while winning series in Australia, West Indies and Sri Lanka.

This team has won everywhere says Sunil Gavaskar on Virat Kohli’s men

“It certainly is, look at the way they are consistently, regularly, winning matches and therefore. You know, Steve Waugh’s team in the 90s. Then you look at the West Indies team’s dominance under Clive Lloyd and Viv Richards and Brian Lara sort of for a few years. So when you have a team that is as good as the West Indies and Australia in its history perhaps. In the 1970s through 1980s also there were teams that won consistently. This team has won everywhere,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

Gavaskar believes that it was a great achievement to have won against an Australian team with Steve Smith, David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne. After winning that series in Australia, head coach Ravi Shastri had said that Kohli’s behaviour has rubbed upon the entire team. Gavaskar further called this team the best in the history of Indian cricket.

“In Australia, this time around, Steve Smith, David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne all were there. I think it’s raised the bar considerably. So clearly, yes. This Indian team, when you look at the history of Indian cricket, this Indian team would be the best of them all,” he added.
