IND vs ENG: 3rd Test – Ten records established in the short-lived Test
India defeated England in the third Test of the four-match series by 10 wickets. The hosts have now taken a lead of 2-1 in the series. The visitors had set a target of just 49 runs in the fourth innings for India. Axar Patel who took 11 wickets in the match was awarded player of the match for an amazing performance.
In the first innings of the match, India had taken a lead of 33 runs as they scored 145 runs after bowling out England for 112 runs. Rohit Sharma hit a half-century for the hosts in the first innings. In the second innings, England were completely bamboozled by Indian spinners as they were all out for only 81 runs.

This was just the second instance of a Test match getting completed in 2 days on India soil. Earlier, the 2018 Bengaluru Test played between India and Afghanistan also got over in 2 days.
Ravichandran Ashwin became the second quickest bowler to complete 400 Test wickets. Ashwin has achieved this feat in 77 Test matches, while Muttiah Muralitharan who is at the top spot achieved this milestone in only 72 Test matches.

Virat Kohli has now surpassed MS Dhoni in terms of most Test wins at home as captain to become the most successful captain in home Tests for India. Virat has won 22 Tests at home ahead of Dhoni’s tally of 21 wins.
Axar Patel registered figures of 11/70 in the match which is the best bowling performance by any bowler in Day-Night Tests. He is also the third bowler after Pat Cummins and Devendra Bishoo to pick a 10-fer in a Day-Night Test match.
Root took 5 wickets for 8 runs in the first innings. These are the best bowling figures in an innings by an English captain in Test cricket since 1983.
England’s score of 81 runs in the second innings is their lowest ever innings total on Indian soil. In Asia, this is also their third-lowest total in innings.

Spinners took 28 wickets in this Test match, which is a record for most wickets taken by spinners in a Day-Night Test.
Ishant Sharma is now only the second Indian fast bowler after Kapil Dev (131 Tests) to be part of 100 Test matches. He is the 11th Indian player to achieve this milestone and is fourth among the bowlers.

Ishant Sharma became the fifth cricketer to play 100 Tests without playing a single game in the ODI World Cup. Other players in this unique list include Alastair Cook, VVS Laxman, Colin Cowdrey and Justin Langer.
This match got over in 140.2 overs and became the shortest completed match in terms of overs bowled in the post-war era.
