IND vs ENG: 2nd T20I Preview – India aim to hit back strong after humiliating defeat

After the humiliating defeat in the first T20I against England, India will be looking to bounce back in the second game of the five-match series. Almost nothing fell in place for the hosts as England thrashed them by eight wickets to take the lead in the series. Asked to bat first, India could only manage a modest total of 124 for 7.

The likes of KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan failed to deliver at the top and India never managed to recover from those setbacks. At one stage, it looked like they would not even cross the 100-run mark but Shreyas Iyer’s fighting knock of 67 helped them post a respectable total of 124 in the allotted 20 overs.

In reply, England chased down the total inside 16 overs by losing just two wickets. Openers Jason Roy and Jos Buttler gave the visitors a solid start by adding 72 runs for the first wicket. Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan then shared an unbeaten stand of 41 runs to take the team home.

Match info:

2nd T20I: India vs England

Date: 14 March (Sunday)

Time: 7:00 PM (IST)

Venue: Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad

Head-to-head record:

Stat Attack:

England have now won their last 6 consecutive T20Is outside England.

Virat Kohli is 72 runs away from completing 3,000 runs in T20Is for India.

Jofra Archer is 1 wicket away from completing 150 wickets across T20s.

Team News:

India:

At the toss, Virat Kohli confirmed that Rohit Sharma has been rested for the first two T20Is. India will be without their star opener for the second game too. It would be interesting to see whether India try out any uncapped player in the second game.

England:

England are unlikely to change their playing eleven for the second game after the convincing win in the first T20I. The visitors have a full-strength squad to choose from for the upcoming game. At the same time, one cannot rule out the possibility of England experimenting with the team as they look to finalise their strongest eleven ahead of this year’s T20 World Cup.
