IND vs BAN: 1st Test – Indian pacers complete comprehensive win on 3rd day
India completed a comprehensive victory over Bangladesh on the third day of the first Test at Indore. After declaring overnight, Indian pacers kept an upper hand over the visitors and routed them for 213 runs to register emphatic innings and 130 runs victory. The home side has now taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The second Test of this series at Eden Gardens, Kolkata will be India’s first day-night Test ever.

India nick four before lunch
Virat Kohli, the Indian captain, declared the innings overnight and inserted Bangladesh to bat with a trail of 343 runs hanging over their heads. Indian pacers once again turned with all their skills and troubled the batsmen from ball one. The opening pair lasted for only 31 balls as Umesh Yadav knocked back Imrul Kayes’ woodwork. Ishant struck from his end in the next over as Bangladesh lost two quick wickets.

‘Second-innings’ Mohammed Shami swung into the action with an LBW dismissal in his first over itself. He followed it up with another scalp in the next over to leave Bangladesh reeling in the first session. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah fought their way through the session and the visitors went to lunch break at 60/4.
Rahim stands tall as middle-order fights
Bangladesh’s best batsman in the current setup, Rahim once again put his hands up and shepherded the middle-order. Shami removed Mahmudullah but his replacement Liton Das came out and expressed himself. The batsman enjoyed his stay at the crease as he moved swiftly to 35 from 39 balls with six fours. It was then R Ashwin’s turn to provide the breakthrough as he effected a caught-and-bowled. Mehidy Hasan also batted with ease and added 59 runs while scoring 38. Bangladesh took tea with four wickets still in hand.
India pocket the Test
The tea break worked for India as Yadav sent back Mehidy immediately. The off-spinner was visibly hurt as the ball ricocheted off his elbow onto the stumps. Rahim tried holding up one end but the Indian bowlers did not allow the tail put up another substantial stand. Ashwin took the final wicket as Bangladesh succumbed to a mammoth defeat. Mayank Agarwal won the player of the match award for his spectacular 243.
