IND vs BAN: 1st Test – India dominate Day 1 with both bat and ball

Bangladesh opted to bat first on the greenish surface. Indian pacers made most of the red cherry as they skittled the batting side for just 150 runs. India did lose Rohit Sharma early but Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara consolidated the innings and finished the day in a dominating position.

India takes three before lunch
Bangladesh’s maiden captain Mominul Haque won the toss and chose to bat first on the Indore pitch which had a greenish tinge. When asked, Virat Kohli opined that he would have bowled first. The Indian pace bowlers proved their captain correct as they relentlessly attacked Bangladeshi batsmen.
After playing hide and seek with the outside edge for a long time, Umesh Yadav extracted one from Imrul Kayes’ blade. The out of form opener will have one more innings to retain his spot. His partner, Shadman Islam, followed him six balls later as Ishant forced a caught behind. 11 overs later, Mohammed Shami swung into the action and sent back Mohammad Mithun.

Lucky Rahim pushes the score forward
India’s top-class bowling effort lacked the usual support from their fielders. Ajinkya Rahane dropped three catches at the first slip while Virat Kohli himself shelled a catch in the slip cordon. Rahim was the beneficiary on three occasions. The diminutive batsman held the fort and scored a doughty 43 until he was brilliantly undone by Mohammed Shami.
Earlier, R Ashwin had broken through the defence of Mominul Haque as he completed 250 Test wickets at home. The off-spinner then bowled Mahmudullah as the batsman attempted a sweep shot. Shami then delivered a sensational over which perfectly set up Rahim. Out-swinging deliveries followed by an in-swinger rattled Rahim’s stumps. He trapped Mehidy Hasan LBW on the very next ball. Ishant completed a team hat-trick by dismissing Liton Das on the next ball. Yadav then cleaned up the tail to stop Bangladesh for only 150 runs.
India consolidate after the fall of Rohit
Bangladesh’s inexperienced new ball pair of Ebadot Hossain and Abu Jayed bowled with an admirable control in the opening overs. Rohit and Agarwal played the jagging ball with caution in the initial phase. However, Rohit did flirt with an outside off-stump delivery which took the edge of his bat. Cheteshwar Pujara came out to bat with a positive intent and relieved the pressure built by Bangladeshi bowlers. The duo of Agarwal and Pujara added 74 runs for the second wickets till the end of the day. India finished the day on 86/1, trailing Bangladesh by 64 runs.
