‘I’m still shaking’ – Preity Zinta after KXIP’s double Super Over win over MI
On October 18, the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) was a witness to one of the greatest matches in its history, if not the greatest. Prior to the game, even as Mumbai Indians (MI) were deemed as the favourites, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) were considered as the dark horses. However, KL Rahul’s KXIP came out firing on all cylinders and secured their third victory of the season.
The triumph also got them up from eighth to the sixth position in the points table. But the win didn’t come easy for them by any stretch of the imagination. After being put in to field first, the Punjab-based franchise got MI on the mat with quite a few early wickets. In the end, Quinton de Kock’s 53 and cameos from Kieron Pollard and Nathan Coulter-Nile lifted Mumbai to 176 in 20 overs.
Punjab held their nerve
In the run-chase, Rahul notched 77 runs with seven fours and three sixes to anchor the innings. Once he perished to fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, the KXIP could only eke out a tie and the game went into a Super Over. The first one-over eliminator was also tied as both teams ended on five runs. But in the end, KXIP got over the line after being asked to chase down 12 runs.
Chris Gayle smashed Trent Boult for a six, and it made KXIP the favourites. Mayank Agarwal hit a four to seal the deal for Punjab. In the meantime, Preity Zinta, the co-owner of KXIP, was left speechless. From the stands, she was seen, both nervous and excited depending on Punjab’s position in the game. Most of Punjab’s matches have gone right down to the wire.
Zinta, also a popular Bollywood actress, went through all sorts of emotions. She didn’t forget to laud the Punjab players for getting over the line in the nail-biting encounter. She took to Twitter and wrote:
Actions speak louder than words as words fail me completely. Two super overs ? OMG ! I’m still shaking. So proud of the #Kxip boys. What a game, what a night, what a feeling ❤️ Thank you @lionsdenkxip for this supreme team effort ? Team work at its best. #MIvsKXIP #Dream11IPL https://t.co/xvdEMmdDjF
