I’m expecting England to come out pretty well full strength for Ashes: Nathan Lyon
The Ashes series has been hit with uncertainties ahead of its start. Few of the England players had expressed their concerns over Australia’s strict COVID-19 protocols for the series. However, the Australian ace spinner Nathan Lyon has come forward to express his opinions on the same.
Previously Lyon had asserted that if he was in the position of the England players, he would have gone ahead with the series. This time around the spinner has shed light on the prominence of the Ashes series. His comments have come in response to the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) uncertainty over sending a full-strength squad Down Under.
According to Lyon, a series like that of Ashes often goes down to shape the careers of the cricketers. He also mentioned that for any Australian cricketer, playing in this series is the pinnacle.
I’m expecting England to come out pretty well full strength: Nathan Lyon
“I’m expecting England to come out pretty well full strength. Ashes series make people’s careers, so if people don’t come out and someone comes out and has an absolute blinder of an Ashes series, that really sets their careers up. I know if I was in their shoes I would be putting both hands up for selection and coming on that tour.
I think that shows the passion between the two Nations and it’s the Pinnacle as an Australian cricketer to play in the Ashes series. So no doubt there will be some comments flying around and creating a b theater, which I’m all for, so it should be good fun,” Nathon Lyon said while speaking with the Sydney Morning Herald.
The spinner wasn’t included in Australia’s white-ball set-up against West Indies and Bangladesh recently. He also did not make it to the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup squad. Lyon expressed his disappointment on the same and stated that he would keep working on it.
“Yeah, 100 percent I was disappointed. That drives me even more to be honest with you. I’m disappointed I didn’t get selected in either of those squads if I’m being honest. But that’s something that I can keep working on, keep putting my hand up for selection. I’ve been really productive this offseason being able to work on a couple of different balls in white-ball cricket,” Lyon added.
