‘Batters will win you games and bowlers will win you tournaments’ – this old cricketing adage came true yet again as bowlers played a monumental role in helping Gulf Giants win the inaugural edition of the ILT20 league. The James Vince-led side soared high on the success of their highly impressive bowling unit, which was led by England international Chris Jordan. Courtesy of their consistency throughout the season, Gulf Giants emerged victorious after restricting Desert Vipers to only 146 runs.
Which bowlers delivered for their franchises time and again? Here’s a list of three players who managed to pick the most number of wickets in the ILT20 2023 –
3. Wanindu Hasaranga
Sri Lanka international Wanindu Hasaranga is famed for doing well in the shortest format of the game and he didn’t disappoint this time either. The 25-year-old picked up 15 wickets from nine matches and finished as the third-leading wicket-taker of the tournament. He was making some decent contributions with the bat as well but it didn’t help as Desert Vipers, lost to Gulf Giants on the night of the finals.
2. David Wiese
The veteran all-rounder David Wiese was sensational throughout the tournament. The Namibian international picked up 18 wickets in 11 matches and finished the season as the second-leading wicket-taker of the tournament. He was extremely vital for the Giants and courtesy of his massive contribution, his team emerged victorious in the end.
1. Chris Jordan
England international Chris Jordan was at his accurate best in the entire tournament. Right from the beginning, he made an impact and remained consistent throughout the season. The 34-year-old clinched 20 wickets from 10 matches. He was brilliant in the death overs and an economy of 7.39 proves his effectiveness. The cricketer finished as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament.
