Rohit jumps to career-best ranking
Rohit Sharma, who once again found a new lease of life as an opening batsman, has risen to his career-best ranking in Test cricket. The 32-year-old smashed hundreds in both innings of the first Test and has climbed 36 spots in the rankings. He is now placed at the 17th position. His partner, Mayank Agarwal had an impressive start to his Test career with his outings against Australia down under. After a mediocre series in the Caribbean, he returned to notch his career-best knock of 215 in the first innings at Vizag. Mayank has jumped 38 places to the 25th rank.

On the other hand, Mohammed Shami’s five-wicket haul in the second innings has helped him jump two places to the 16th spot. Shami was instrumental in dismantling the Proteas batting line-up on Day 5, following which India won the first Test by 203 runs. In Jasprit Bumrah’s absence, Shami has taken the onus of leading India’s pace attack.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has slipped further in the Test rankings for batsmen. The Indian captain fell cheaply in the first innings and stayed unbeaten on 31 in the second. He has now slipped below the 900-point mark for the first time since January last year. Kohli is now 38 points away from the top-ranked Test batsman, Steve Smith.
