ICC Rankings updated after World Cup: Gains and losses
The World Cup 2019 is over. Two men who shone the brightest, Kane Williamson (Player of the tournament) and Ben Stokes (Player of the final) have achieved their career-best ranking points in the latest update of ICC rankings. Williamson is currently sixth in the batsmen’s list while Stokes is second in the all-rounder section.

After his knock of 67 against India in the semi-final, Williamson rose to 799 points which is his career-best. The knock of 30 in the final brought the tally down to 796 but the New Zealand captain is still sixth on the list. Virat Kohli has retained his top spot in the ODIs despite not enjoying a spectacular campaign.
Rohit Sharma, the man who smashed five centuries in the tournament, is a close second with 5 points less than his captain. Pakistan’s Babar Azam occupies the third spot. Riding on his century against Australia in South Africa’s last game, Faf du Plessis has overtaken New Zealand’s Ross Taylor to claim the fourth spot.
In the bowling department, New Zealand’s fast bowler Matt Henry has broken into the top ten. His three-wicket haul against India in the semi-final was instrumental in the victory. His entry has pushed Kuldeep Yadav out of top ten bowlers. Jasprit Bumrah still occupies the top spot with Trent Boult and Kagiso Rabada completing the top three.
Another world number one who retained his ranking after the global tournament is Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan. The all-rounder scored 606 runs and took 11 wickets, a feat with no precedence in the World Cup. Stokes with 319 points is second on the list. Afghan duo of Mohammad Nabi (3rd) and Rashid Khan (5th) remain in top five while Pakistan’s Imad Wasim is fourth in the rankings.
