ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to be played from June 4 to 30, 2024

The ICC’s (International Cricket Council) next commercial cycle (2024-31) will begin with the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup. In a recent report, it was stated that the next Men’s T20 World Cup is all set to be held from June 4 to June 30, 2024.

The tournament will be hosted by the USA and the West Indies across 10 venues. The USA will be hosting an international cricket tournament for the first time in its history. The ICC recently conducted an inspection of the venues in the USA. The venues include Lauderhill in Florida, Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas, Church Street Park in Morrisville, and Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx in New York.

Such venues are yet to receive international venue status, and the decision over the same will be taken by the ICC, Cricket West Indies (CWI), and USA Cricket (USAC) together in the coming months.

As per reports by ESPNcricinfo, the format of the T20 World Cup will be different from the previous editions as well. In 2024, the 20 participating teams will be divided into four groups of five teams each, and the top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 8s.

In the Super 8 stage, the eight teams will be divided into two groups with four teams each, with the top two in each group reaching the semi-final stages of the marquee event. With the USA co-hosting the World Cup alongside the West Indies, the thrilling games could go a long way in bringing the cricket culture to the country. The ICC appointed the USA as a co-host as part of a strategic move.

Firstly, the governing body’s wish for cricket to be added to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games (LA28) could be a big reason why the USA would be co-hosting the World Cup. Furthermore, the growth of the sport in the country, if nurtured right, could be incredible.
